PhD Supervisor Talk: Are you aligned with your PhD students and team of supervisors?

Arrangementsbeskrivelse

PhD Supervisor Talk:
Are you aligned with your PhD students and team of supervisors?

Content: PhD students and supervisors often have differing expectations of each other, and many students find it difficult to decode what supervision entails. Unspoken and contrasting expectations for the collaboration process can disrupt supervision and impair student success and persistence. Consequently, aligning expectations is key to building effective supervision. It prevents insecurity about each other’s roles and responsibilities, and it is a means of establishing shared standards for good research and good academic writing.

In this talk, you will get research-based and concrete advice on how to align expectations with your PhD students to ensure a successful working relationship. You will learn about the importance of early matching, and you are introduced to key tools for communicating regularly about your expectations. Moreover, the talk will include presentation of strategies for making the best out of potentially different competences and preferences within a team of supervisors (main and co-supervisors).
